All the Top Guns at 2024 New York World Rapid & Blitz
A tentative line-up has been released by FIDE for the 2024 World Rapid & Blitz Championships to be held in New York, 20 days before the kick-off. The tournament is being quoted as the strongest competition ever to take place on United States soil! The Championships will take place from Dec 26 – Dec 31, 2024.
The 2024 World Rapid & Blitz will feature about 300 players including both the Open and Women’s sections.
The Elite:
9 out of the World’s Top 10 classical players are going to be featured, including all the big names – Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, the newest 2800 Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Alireza Firouzja, Ian Nepomniachtchi and more. The World Championship Challenger Gukesh D has also confirmed his participation while still competing in a hard-fought match with Ding Liren. The World Champion however elaborated his decision to not play in the press conference after Game 9 of the Match, stating the desire to get some rest after a gruelling match as the primary reason.

The Women’s section will feature the World Champion Ju Wenjun accompanied by the super strong Chinese contingent of Lei Tingjie, Tan Zhongyi, Zhu Jiner and more. Apart from the Chinese top seeds, former World Champions – Tan Zhongyi, Mariya Muzychuk, Alexandra Kosteniuk, and Zhu Chen will be headlining the women’s section alongside many other prominent names.
Some of the best players from India, China, Uzbekistan, the USA, France, and others are going to be competing for absolute glory this Christmas. Indian crowd favourites like Praggnanandhaa, Vidit Gujrathi, Divya Deshmukh, Koneru Humpy, etc. will also contest.
The youngest International Master in the world, Faustino Oro, also dubbed as the Messi of chess will make it to New York. Faustino is known for his brilliance in Online Blitz chess. We’d be looking forward to the potential upsets the prodigy causes!
In addition to the top ranks, many chess influencers and strong players to their credit will also feature to make the mix exciting, namely, Daniel Naroditsky, Eric Rosen, etc.
