You know Titled Tuesday. Next is Freestyle Fridays!
Posted on January 16, 2025 BY Michael Ludwig
Chess.com has announced they will be starting “Freestyle Friday” on January 24th, at 11:00 a.m. ET / 17:00 CET. These new events will be very similar to Titled Tuesdays, in an 11-round blitz format made available to titled players, but in the Chess960/Freestyle variant which has a scrambled starting position. Each week will include a $1000 prize fund.
The release shares that this is “another fruit of Chess.com’s recently announced partnership with Freestyle Chess, the organization led by German entrepreneur Jan-Henric Buettner and GM Magnus Carlsen.” Freestyle Fridays are another push towards the renewed version of chess of which Magnus has become so fond.
