Shevchenko’s GM Title has been Revoked
Posted on August 29, 2025 BY Michael Ludwig
Kirill Shevchenko was assigned a three year ban earlier this year, for cheating in 2024. Following an appeal by Shevchenko and a ‘cross-appeal’ by the FIDE Fair Play Commission, the FIDE Ethics & Disciplinary Commission has applied the following sanctions:
– A three-year worldwide ban from all FIDE-rated events.
– One year of the ban suspended, contingent on the absence of further misconduct.
– The ban runs from 19 October 2024 until 18 October 2026, with the suspended portion in effect until 18 October 2027.
– The Grandmaster title is revoked effective from the date of publishing this decision.
Shevchenko becomes the fourth player to have their Grandmaster title revoked. You can read the full release on the FIDE website.
