Rapid, Blitz and Fischer Random Chess Championship
The European Rapid, Blitz and Fischer Random Chess Championship took place in Skopje, North Macedonia from December 7 to December 10 2024!
European Chess Union organized the Rapid & Blitz Championship at the end of every year prior to the World Rapid & Blitz. The inclusion of Fischer Random Chess was a novelty in the 2024 edition. We are constantly witnessing the growing importance of Fischer Random or Chess960 or Freestyle Chess and the inclusion of this format in the European Championships elevates it further.
The tournament had a packed schedule with 11 rounds of Rapid (15+10), 13 rounds of Blitz (3+2), and 11 rounds of Fischer Random chess in a rapid time control (10+5) spread across 4 days!
Many top European players took part in the event – Vladimir Fedoseev, David Navara, Alexey Sarana, Jorden van Foreest, etc.
Vladimir Fedoseev took a Double by winning the Rapid and Fischer Random Chess Championship. Fedoseev put up a masterclass in the Fischer Random section, winning all his games in the first 10 rounds and drawing the last one – eventually winning with a 2-point margin over the rest of the field!

Jorden van Foreest took the crown in the Blitz section, winning the title on tiebreak over the talented Alexey Sarana.
Would FIDE take notice and incorporate Fischer Random Chess with the yearly World Rapid & Blitz?
