Pragg, Keymer, Giri face off in Prague Masters
With the dews of Tata Steel not yet gone, the chills of the next Super Grandmaster tournament, the Prague Masters 2025 is all set to take off today. A nice packed field of fighting 2700+ Grandmasters make up the list for this year. Chinese Grandmaster and Tata Steel 2024 Champion Wei Yi (2755) is the top seed. The tournament organised by Novy Bor Chess Club runs from 26th Feb to 7th March, 2025 at Hotel Don Giovanni, Prague. The crucial FIDE Circuit points for the Candidates qualification is on line.
Coming straight from his thrilling victory in Tata Steel Wijk aan Zee will be GM Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu (2741). Pragg’s final round conqueror in Wijk aan Zee & Weissenhaus winner GM Keymer Vincent (2731) will be here to keep the Indian in check. Wishing to make amends for his moderate Wijk show will be Dutch icon Anish Giri (2728).
Adding spice to the line-up will be former Prague Masters Champion GM Sam Shankland (USA) who is always a tough nut to crack. Multiple Biel Masters winner and world blitz champion 2013 GM Le Quang Liem (Vietnam) is an exciting player to watch in all formats and is nice a value addition.
Chennai Grandmaster 2024 winner GM Aravindh Chithambaram (India) gets his invite to a super GM tournament and will not disappoint. Completing the field will be Czech stars GM David Navara and Tata Steel Challengers 2025 winner GM Nguyen Thai Dai Van. 16-year-old bottom seed from Turkey GM Ediz Gurel (2624) is not to be under-estimated and can pull the rug under any top Grandmaster on his day.
