Lichess Checkmates X!
In a move that’s got everyone talking, popular online chess platform Lichess has announced it’s leaving X (formerly Twitter). Citing concerns over the platform’s rising tide of hate speech and misinformation, the Lichess team decided it was time to check out.
“Recent changes have drastically increased the amount of hate speech and misinformation on the platform,” the official statement reads. “Due to this, we no longer believe X is a beneficial place for us to communicate with you.”

Lichess currently stands as the largest open-source chess playing platform and is preferred by many for their flawless interface and latency rate.
But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean Lichess is going anywhere! You can still keep in the loop with Lichess updates through their website feed and blog posts. They’ve also hinted at alternative platforms, which include Instagram, Facebook, Discord, TikTok, etc. for those who still want their social media fix.
Lichess admits other platforms have their own issues but believes the good still outweighs the bad when it comes to spreading the word about their awesome open-source project.
So, while you won’t find Lichess on X anymore, they’re still very much in the game – just on a different board. For more such news on all-things-chess, follow ChessNinja!
