Kramnik Starts the “Procedure”

Former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik was banned for 6 months from participating in prize-money events on the website, ChessCom earlier in December 2024 .

A public statement was published by the platform on X, mentioning the reasons for penalising the Former World Champion. Vladimir Kramnik publicly accused an International Master of cheating on X during the Early Titled Tuesday that took place on which is an apparent violation of ChessCom Community Guidelines*. Kramnik has faced repercussions for similar violations in the past.

As retaliation, Kramnik has, quote-unquote “started the procedure” by allegedly sending a ‘Pre-Legal Demand Letter’ dated Dec 27, 2024, to Erik Allebest and Danny Rensch, CEO and COO, ChessCom, respectively.

Failure to comply with these demands will compel Mr. Kramnik to pursue all available legal remedies in all relevant jurisdictions to restore his rights and safeguard his interests”, read an excerpt from the Pre-Legal Demand Letter.

Kramnik published the screenshots of this supposedly issued letter on his X account, quoting it “Starting the procedure :).”

How would ChessCom react to these “threats”? Would the penalty on Kramnik be rescinded or negotiated? We will get the answers to these questions as this controversy unfolds further.
