Hans Niemann Rematches Anish Giri, to face Aronian Next
On June 4, Han Niemann continued his Hans Niemann Against the World series with a rematch against the “Twitter King”, Anish Giri. Unlike the triathlon the two played earlier in Utrecht, Niemann put together an 18-game 3m+2s online Blitz match on a novel platform. Anish was not only playing for vengeance but also a bounty of $10,000! Who came out on top?
Hans got the better of Giri during the majority of the match, gaining a 3-point lead after 14 games. With only four games to go, Anish managed to conjure his magic, winning all four of the remaining games and winning the match with a final score of 9.5-8.5!
Here’s an animated still from the broadcast of this exciting match:

Niemann confirmed through his socials that the two agreed to a rematch, which would take place in two weeks, on June 18. Not just Anish, but Niemann announced that he will also be facing the “fourth highest rated player of all time” – Levon Aronian – in a 1v1 match soon.
Amidst the lack of opportunities in top tournaments, Hans is paving his own way to the top. Will Hans, after all, be able to become the successor to the ultimate throne?
