Hans Niemann Biggest Titled Tuesday Performance – Takes Down Hikaru, Draws Magnus
GM Hans Niemann dropped arguably the most memorable online performances in the Late Titled Tuesday on May 13, 2025, not only winning the tournament undefeated but also scoring 1.5/2 against Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura in the penultimate rounds!
Hans scored 9.5 points, winning 8 games and drawing the rest 3. One of his draws came against none other than Magnus Carlsen. Since the Sinquefield Cup fiasco, any encounter between these two is highly anticipated by the chess fans. Magnus proved to be slippery as he ran away with half a point from a totally lost position against the American. But this was only a warm-up since the online chess titan – Hikaru Nakamura – was waiting for Niemann in the final round as his opponent. Hans took a sweet revenge for their previous Freestyle Friday game, where Nakamura came out on top. However, in this one, Hans impressively gave Hikaru no chances to survive and essentially steamrolled his experienced countryman.
