FIDE Ratings, December 2025: Keymer, Erigaisi open Top 5 gap
The December 1st FIDE rating list has been published, and for the moment, Vincent Keymer and Arjun Erigaisi have set themselves a small ways apart from everyone behind them. Carlsen, Nakamura, and Caruana’s positions remain unchanged at the top, and then Keymer and Erigaisi’s small gains see them at 2776 and 2775, good for numbers 4 and 5 in the world.
Combined with some losses by Anish Giri and Praggnanandhaa R, there is a 13-point gap between 5th place and 6th place, currently held by Alireza Firouzja. This will of course continue to change, but it stands out a little more given that neither Keymer nor Erigaisi will be participating in the Candidates in the Spring.
Other notable adjustments include World Champion Gukesh dropping to #10, and jumps by World Cup successes Esipenko (+17), Donchenko (+20), Leko (+16), and Martinez (+23). World Cup finalists Javokhir Sindarov (+5) and Wei Yi (+2) made very modest gains, which can be explained by their success in tiebreaks rather than necessarily Classical. The Women’s side saw smaller changes, with one exception being Polina Shuvalova’s huge month, gaining 30 points to rejoin the 2500 club, at 2502, which is also her first time in the Women’s top 10.
