FIDE Rating List July 2025: Pragg Reaches New Heights
July 1st brings a new official update to the FIDE rating list, published every month. The biggest highlight is Praggnanandhaa’s gains becoming formalized, as his rating refreshes to 2779 and he reaches a new peak rank of number four in the world. That means he leads countrymen Arjun Erigaisi and World Champion Gukesh, while only trailing the iconic trio of Carlsen, Nakamura, and Caruana.

There is an interesting gap in the mid-2700s, where only Alireza Firouzja sits between 2750 and 2770. At 2766, you can include him to identify a very defined top eight in the world, though the pack between 2730 and 2750 has a rather astonishing group of names — see the full list on the FIDE website, or on 2700chess.
The Women’s side includes the jump up by Anna Muzychuk to fourth in the world, which per FIDE is the first time in six years she has ranked that high. Tan Zhongyi is the biggest faller near the top of the Women’s rankings, as she drops three spots to number eight. Lower down, it’s a big day for Carissa Yip, whose Cairns Cup victory propels her to 2453, a 22-point gain, and good for number 21 on the list.
