FIDE launches digital chess museum
On completion of 100 years of existence a first-of-its-kind online digital chess museum got launched by FIDE (International Chess Federation). Founded in Paris, France in 1924 with motto “Gens una sumus”, Latin for ‘We are one Family’, FIDE has come a long way in connecting more than 200 member countries as one family.
At the Open Chess Museum you can discover the fascinating world of chess through diverse collection of unique exhibits. The dazzling 64 square game that originated in India by 550 C.E. and has traveled to the rest of the world has been well chronicled. This online museum dedicated to chess provides global access to FIDE’s archive, where researchers and chess fans can take their pick from the time of game’s evolution.
Continuing its 2024 centenary celebrations, FIDE has come up with an online museum showcases chess history from ancient to modern times. This online Chess Museum of FIDE, head quartered at Lausanne, Switzerland, will be world’s largest repository of chess memorabilia and artifacts.
The list of world champions with respective bibliography, annotations and publications of historical interest would make it a compulsive viewing.

Complete historical record of the game of chess is freely available online—featuring rare, not seen before materials viz., hand-written score-sheets to championship medals and personal collections of the top players. The project also aims to bring to light fascinating facts and stories from the game’s past.
Following up on FIDE’s slogan – the game is just beginning – the Online Chess Museum will be an evolving project. Other collectors, galleries, national federations, clubs and players are invited by FIDE to join and share their collection on the museum’s website.
