FIDE Boosts Grand Swiss Prize Fund by $255,000
In their latest press release, FIDE (International Federation of Chess) has announced some key updates in the format of FIDE Grand Swiss and Women’s Grand Swiss as well as a significant increase in the prize fund.
For the first time since its inception, Grand Swiss is going to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 3 to 15, 2025. Earlier editions of the event have always taken place in the Isle of Man with the exception of the 2021 edition, which was put together in Riga. FIDE Grand Swiss and Women’s Grand Swiss had a prize fund $460,000 and $140,000, respectively, in the previous edition (2023). With a substantial increase, the tournament now boasts a prize fund with 42.5% from the previous edition—$625,000 for the Open and $230,000 for the Women’s event.

“We are exceptionally pleased to have been able to increase the funding for both events, as more players will be able to share prizes,” said President Dvorkovich.
