FIDE has finally announced the details for the 2025 Women’s World Chess Championship, between defending Champion Ju Wenjun and Challenger Tan Zhongyi.
It will be a 12 game match played in China between April 3-21, with days on either side for the opening and closing ceremonies. The first six games will take place in Shanghai, and the second six in Chongqing. FIDE includes them as the respective hometowns of Wenjun and Zhongyi.
The time control is fairly average for a top classical event, with 90 minutes for 40 moves and then an additional 30 minutes, with a 30 second increment from move one. As has been the standard, if the match is tied 6-6, then rapid and, if necessary, blitz games will break the tie.
