GM Vladimir Fedoseev joined GM Salem A R Saleh (23.0) on top of the table after the blitz section of GMT Triathlon in the 58th Biel Chess Festival at Biel, Switzerland. Top seed Fedoseev clinched the blitz section with 7.5 points followed by GMs Saleh and Aravindh at 6.0 points each. World Rapid Champion Volodar Murzin logged 4.0 points, enough to take him to GMT Masters Triathlon finals ahead of Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek.
GMs Nikolas Theodorou (26.5), Aram Hakobyan (24.0), Rinat Jumabayev and David Navara (both 15.5) made it to Challengers finals.

The Biel GMT Triathlon culminates in the final after the successful conclusion three phases viz., classical, rapid and blitz sections. The top four finishers will move on to the GMT Triathlon finals. The triathlon goes on and on more like a marathon with the top four finishes battling it out after surviving three different time controls.
The GMT Triathlon final phase regulations are: A return match in classical time control with the first four players (only the first three if the 4th is more than 12 points behind the first) at the end of qualification phase. Players conserve points acquired during the qualification phase.
Similar to Norway Chess, Biel has it’s own unique points system for the Grandmaster triathlon GMT viz., (a) Classical: 4 points for a win; 1.5 point for a draw; 0 point for a loss, (b) Rapid: 2 points for a win; 1 point for a draw; 0 point for a loss (c) Blitz: 1 point for a win; 0.5 point for a draw; 0 point for a loss.
Time Control: Classical: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds increment as of move 41. Rapid: 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move & Blitz: 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move.
