Eline Roebers Shines with Joint Third at Open Tournament

Dutch International Master Eline Roebers, aged 19, delivered a stellar performance at the Alba Grand Prix Rapid in Romania on July 14-15, 2025, securing a joint third-place finish (overall #4) in a fiercely competitive field packed with strong Grandmasters. The tournament was eventually won by Ukrainian GM Yuriy Kuzubov.

Roebers, former Dutch Women’s Champion, scored an impressive 8/10, including a notable victory over GM David Gavrilescu (2543) and a near-upset against top seed GM Jose Martinez (2622) AKA Jospem. Despite losing only one game, which she was poised to win, Roebers showcased her tactical brilliance and resilience.

This result further cements her reputation as a rising star in global chess, especially in speed chess, following her recent successes, including a fourth-place finish at the 2024 European Women’s Rapid & Blitz Championship.
