Daniel Naroditsky has a suggestion about listening to Magnus
Daniel Naroditsky was on Ben Johnson’s “Perpetual Chess Podcast” for a post-World Championship discussion, and one of their topics was the influence that Magnus Carlsen has on the minds of those in the chess world, inspired by Magnus’s presence in the “Take Take Take” game recaps. Naroditsky’s comments noted that it’s natural for there to be a default towards whichever opinion Magnus expresses because of his continued status as the #1 player in the world, but cautions that it is still reasonable to disagree with Magnus, or Hikaru Nakamura, or any other top player.
“I want to point out that there are still topics where it’s okay as a chess fan to not have the same intuition that Magnus has.” – Naroditsky
He makes a fair point, on how easy it is to assume Magnus is correct – which indeed, he often is! – and also added that of course it is great to have Magnus offering his thoughts in so many ways.
