Classical can’t keep Grandmasters away from Titled Tuesday
It’s a common story, that a Grandmaster who’s currently participating in a big tournament finds themselves also jumping into Titled Tuesday – top players just can’t get enough chess. This week, it’s Magnus Carlsen who, after losing his first game of the Freestyle semifinals to Vincent Keymer, crushed another Titled Tuesday, winning with a 10.5/11 score. His one draw came against Hikaru Nakamura, another participant in the Weissenhaus tournament. Magnus finished a clear point ahead of Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Dmitry Andreikin, at 9.5/11.
The late edition did not have any of the Freestylers on the leaderboard, unsurprisingly given the time in Europe. Parham Maghsoodloo took first place with 10/11, half a point ahead of Sam Sevian at 9.5, and a pack at 9 points.
Attention turns back to Freestyle; whether Magnus can recover in game two against Keymer, and whether Javokhir Sindarov can survive another top test from Fabiano Caruana. Games will be live on Lichess.
