Carlsen, Caruana stream Titled Tuesday
Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana both livestreamed a March 11th Titled Tuesday. Magnus is operating on the “Take Take Take” Youtube channel now, and was live for the early event. Fabiano played the later edition on the “C-Squared” channel on which he mostly posts podcasts with Cristian Chirila, spotted in with live streams like this.
Magnus ultimately won the early tournament with a score of 9.5/11, tying with Jefferey Xiong and taking first on tiebreak. He had his fun today generating a random number between 1 and 20 to determine the opening he would play in each game, each number representing one of the 16 possible pawn moves or the 4 knight moves. That contributed to an early draw when his ’20’ roll caused him to start 1. e4 Nh6?! in round three.
After losing to Oleksandr Bortnyk in round 8 (with 1. f3?), he had to win out. The final round game was a tricky victory over Praggnanandhaa, who dropped from solo first into third place as a result.
The late tournament was won cleanly by Parhamov (Parham Maghsoodloo, 9.5/11) ahead of six players at 9 points and Magnus at 8.5. Caruana had a less successful streamed tournament, finishing down the standings.
