Anish Giri & Vidit Gujrathi Join the Ghibli Art Cult
Dutch Grandmaster Anish Giri was in India to attend the wedding of one of his best friends in the sport, Vidit Gujrathi. Anish has a huge fan following in the Indian subcontinent, and his presence in an Indian-style wedding made it even more compelling for the fans to follow. India’s prime chess promoter, ChessBase India (Sagar Shah), was actively involved in documenting the events and giving the fans what they wanted. Apart from the vlogs and short videos, this exuberant picture of Vidit and Anish made waves on their socials:

Anish Giri jumped onto the Ghibli-style art trend boat and shared this wholesome picture of him with his good friend at his wedding. Vidit Gujrathi can be seen wearing a ‘Sherwani’, which is an ethnic Indian attire, while Anish is embracing the Indian culture by wearing a garland around his neck.
In a vlog with ChessBase India, Anish with his wife Sopiko Guramishvili can be seen shopping for the wedding. Indian weddings are celebrated across 2-3 days of different events, which allowed us to witness the couple wearing ethnic Indian outfits as well. Anish couldn’t help but share a picture of him in a red ‘Kurta’ with the World Champion Gukesh standing in the background, captioned “With the golden boy.”
The visuals from the wedding of Vidit Gujrathi and his now wife, Nidhi Kataria, through the eyes of ChessBase India were a delight to watch for the chess fans. We congratulate the couple and wish them a prosperous married life!
