14-year-old Turkish Chess Prodigy Breaks World’s Top 100
At just 14 years old, Turkish chess grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus has etched his name in chess history by entering the world’s top 100 chess players, currently standing at #96 with a live FIDE rating of 2633.0. His remarkable achievement came after a decisive victory against eight-time Russian champion Grandmaster Peter Svidler in the first game of their “Clash of Generations” match in Marseille, France, on July 23, 2025.

Playing with the black pieces, Erdogmus showcased his precision under time pressure, outplaying the Russian, earning 6.0 Elo points and cementing his place one step closer to the elite.
Intriguing parallels are being drawn between this achievement by the Turkish prodigy and that of Judit Polgar, who broke into the top 100 as a 12-year-old back in 1989. Indeed, there is no comparison when we talk about the all-time great, and Polgar is one of them. However, as the youngest player in the recent history to reach this milestone, Erdogmus signals a dazzling future for Turkish chess.
